A Las Casas Verdes home comes with so many standard features that make your home one of the greenest and most efficient in Austin, it is hard to imagine you can step it up a bit further, but you can.

We recommend to our custom home buyers that they upgrade their home using Structural Insulated Panels or SIP panels in the exterior walls and roof, for only a marginal increase in cost. Why upgrade from wooden studs?
There are actually several reasons. Construction time of the home’s framework is reduced for the SIP panels because the panels arrive pre-built and ready for assembly. Steel frame construction makes for straighter walls and less warping. We use the SIP panels on our roofs as well.
Constructing with SIP panels, as an alternative to wood, provides higher structural integrity, higher insulation values and is termite, rot, and mold resistant. As we all know in Texas, mold, termites and rot are certainly a concern. In addition because the panels are built off site there is less construction waste. This reduces the burden on our land fills.
With Structural Insulated Panels, your home will be energy efficient, strong and airtight! Airtight homes lend themselves to a healthier environment, provide increased sound attenuation and lower utility bills.
Did I mention that fewer trees are cut when homeowners use the SIP panels? And I really like trees! And don’t forget the fire resistant nature of the insulation and the metal studs. Utility bill savings and higher structural integrity. Wow, not a bad incentive to upgrade at all!

Sturctural Insulated Panels are a great alternative building product. I have sold a number of homes constructed with them and the energy efficiency that they provide is a great benefit. I will be holding an open house this Sunday 9/12/2010 at Las Casas Verdes. If you haven’t seen these “green homes” please stop by and learn about SIPs and the other great features these homes have to offer!
